Global economic cycle
Where the world's major economies sit in the business cycle, based on the OECD's composite leading indicators, which are designed to signal turning points about six to nine months ahead. Press play to watch the past two years, or select an economy to see its path. Updated monthly.
How to read it
Each dot is an economy. Right of center means its leading indicator is above the long-term trend; above the middle line means it rose over the last month. Economies tend to move clockwise through the four phases: expansion, downturn, slowdown, recovery.
What it isn't
A forecast for markets or a signal to buy or sell. Stock prices often move before the economy does, and these indicators show direction, not how fast an economy is growing.
Using it in a plan
Several cycles can come and go during a long-term plan. Diversifying across regions, keeping an emergency fund and rebalancing are ways people prepare for any phase. Asset allocation lesson

Dividend center
The S&P 500 stocks with the highest trailing 12-month dividend yields. A very high yield can mean the share price has fallen, so the payout may be at risk. Yield is one input, not a verdict.
