What Socratii is, what it isn't, and where the numbers on this site come from. Last updated October 10, 2026.
Education, not advice
Everything on Socratii, including lessons, calculators, the chat assistant, the Market Center and Plan2Vest, is for general education only. Nothing here is personalized financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and nothing is a recommendation or an offer to buy or sell any security. Investing involves risk, including the loss of money you invest. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Not a broker-dealer or investment adviser
Socratii is an educational and broker-matching service, not a broker-dealer, registered investment adviser or bank. We don't hold your money or execute trades. Broker-dealer partners are separately registered and responsible for account opening, execution and suitability. You can look up any firm or professional on FINRA BrokerCheck and the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site.
Market data
Stock and ETF prices, daily changes, returns, 52-week ranges, dividend yields and price charts shown in the Market Center, the chat assistant and Plan2Vest are market data from Tiingo.com. Intraday prices are derived reference prices and may differ from the price on any exchange or at your broker. When markets are closed, prices reflect the most recent session. Returns are calculated from Tiingo's adjusted prices, which include reinvested dividends where available.
Socratii never sends Tiingo prices to an AI model; answers in the chat that include prices are built on our own servers from the data feed.
Government and public data
Economic figures come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Company revenue, net income and share counts come from filings on the SEC's EDGAR system. Lessons are written by Socratii from official consumer resources, including Investor.gov, the SEC, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and StudentAid.gov, and FINRA resources are linked rather than reproduced. Figures are shown as published and may be revised by the source.
Socratii is not affiliated with or endorsed by Tiingo, the SEC, FINRA, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Department of the Treasury or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
The chat assistant
The chat assistant explains financial concepts in plain language. Some answers are written by an AI model and can contain mistakes, so check important details against the linked sources. The assistant won't tell you what to buy, sell or hold.
Plan2Vest
Plan2Vest's plan, watchlist, stages, notes and hypothetical mix are saved only in your browser. Spreadsheets you upload are read on your device and are not sent to Socratii. If you add holdings, only their ticker symbols are sent to Socratii’s server to look up prices; share counts, balances and the rest of your plan stay on your device. Clearing your browser data, or choosing Start over, deletes them. A hypothetical mix is a learning sketch, not a recommended portfolio.
The Practice portfolio is a hypothetical simulation for education. No money is invested and no orders are sent anywhere. Practice trades are valued at Tiingo's daily closing prices on the trade date, or the latest price for trades placed today, with no commissions, taxes, bid-ask spreads or market impact. Dividends are added as cash on the ex-dividend date, and the S&P 500 comparison uses the SPY exchange-traded fund bought with the same starting cash. Real trading results would differ. Hypothetical and past results do not predict future results, and the sample portfolio is a teaching example, not a recommendation. Your starting cash, start date and trades are saved only in your browser; only ticker symbols and your start date are sent to Socratii's server to look up prices.
Plan2Vest projections are hypothetical illustrations for education. They use the return, inflation and tax assumptions you can see and change on the page, apply them evenly every year, and show results in today's dollars. Real returns vary from year to year, and the order of good and bad years matters, especially near retirement. Projections leave out many things that affect real outcomes, including investment fees, detailed tax rules and required withdrawals. They are not a guarantee and not investment, tax or legal advice. Action items point to general lessons and calculators based on the numbers you enter; they are not recommendations to buy, sell or hold anything. Sections without your plan show illustrative sample data.
My Investments values the holdings you enter with market data from Tiingo.com. Stock and ETF prices can be delayed and mutual funds show their latest closing price (net asset value). Asset classes are worked out from each fund’s category or name and can be wrong; you can set them yourself. Dividend income is a rough estimate from trailing yields, not a forecast. Values are for information and education only, may differ from your account statements, and aren’t a recommendation about any security.
